Very little is known about Burch, although he seems to have been a relatively prolific portrait miniature artist, his portrait miniatures gracing some of the best private and public collections of miniatures. His technique is very reminiscent of William Wood’s lightly hatched brushwork. This attractive portrait miniature of a young lady is typical of his work at the height of his career in the late 18th century.
